( 7, 2015)-The National   Soccer   Team of Liberia,    the Lone Star, has defeated the Tunisian National Team 1-0 in the qualifying rounds of the African Cup of Nations.

The Liberia-Tunisia march was played Saturday, September 5, 2015 at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium in the Liberian capital, Monrovia.

The 3rd African  team  on  the Continent, started proceedings  with  short  passes but  the stubborn  back four of Liberia, led by skipper Teah Dennis,  denied the Tunisians  of getting closer to goal keeper, Saylee Swen.

The 4-4-2 formation, deployed by Head Coach, James Debah, witnessed   Francis Grandpa Doe, leading the line and what could have been the match opener for the Lone star, did not materialize. when William Jerbo  fired wide  from  inside  the  box   of  the  visitors from a Grandpa  Doe pass.

The Tunisian Team,  captained   by Yessione  Chikhami,  soon  resulted  into  a crowded mid field posture that provided a free passage for right winger  Zarr Krangar, to  play  more offensively with Anthony Laford taking three fruitless corner kicks.

The  Lone  Star  soon  took  control with   the man  of   the  day,  Grandpa  Doe, missing  several  scoring chances alongside William Jerbo.

Amidst   the  heavy down pour before a record crowd ,  the  Lone  Star mounted pressure  until  Francis  Grandpa Doe,  assisted by Patrick Garhart   in  the 77th-  minute, skillfully managed to beat  goalie,  Aymen Mathlouti, thus scoring the lone goal to  secure the  three points for the Lone Star

The  Tunisians  who have  appeared at  the  Nations  Cup finals  more  than  Liberia,  pushed  harder   for an equalizer,  but  the Liberian  side    stood her  ground.
The  win   is  James Debah’s  first  since  he  took  over as   Head  Coach  of the  Lone Star  of  Liberia  sometime   this  year.

The  win   has  also given   Liberia  hope  to chase  for  a  place  in  her   group   to   be  in Gabon 2017.
But,  the  team  must win her  remaining  games  if  the  Lone  Star  should  be  there.

The Lone Star has four remaining matches. Liberia VS Togo,  Tunisia vs. Liberia and Djibouti vs Liberia, respectively.

Lone Star lineup includes, Saylee Swen, Solomon Grimes, Gizze Dorbor, Teah Dennis, Dikil Glay, Anthony Lanfor, Zar Krangar, Sam Johnson, Patrick Gerhatt, Francis Grandpa Doe, and William Doe.
