(elbcradio/Sept., 9, 2015)-President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has received in audience the United Nations Secretary-General’s new Special Representative (SRSG) to Liberia, Farid Zarif.

According to an Executive Mansion release, President Johnson-Sirleaf met with Mr. Zarif Monday, September 7, 2015 when he paid a courtesy call on her at her Foreign Ministry office in Monrovia.

Welcoming Mr. Zarif to Liberia, the President praised him for accepting his new challenge saying: “His coming is at a critical period in the Liberia/United Nations partnership, owing to the ongoing drawdown of UN troops from Liberia.

President Johnson-Sirleaf told the new SRSG that Liberia is preparing to take charge of its own security, requiring the strengthening of the Police, Immigration and other security sector groupings.

“Challenges remain in addressing the existing gaps,” the Liberian Leader emphasized.

For his part, SRSG Zarif expressed joy for his new assignment and assured President Johnson-Sirleaf that his coming is an opportunity to support and work along with the Liberian people through their Government.

He recalled that he was in Liberia in 1993 as Chief of Elections of the United Nations Mission adding: “I’m very excited to be back.”

Mr. Zarif then promised to play a pivotal role in strengthening the Liberian leader’s success legacy and to serve the Liberian people through his support to President Johnson-Sirleaf and the Liberian Government.
