(elbcradio.com/Sept., 9, 2015)-Nimba County Senator, Thomas Grupee, wants individuals appointed in various positions in government go through confirmation before taking offices.

Senator Grupee said: “The move would remind public officials that they are accountable to the public and that they must exercise due diligence while serving in public offices.”

He was responding to the Senate Judiciary Committee’s report, submitted to plenary Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at the Capital in Monrovia.

The report, among other things, calls for severance pay for the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL) employees and the company’s senior managers.

Senator Grupee has termed as unfair to the Liberian people, decision to compensate individuals accused of financial malpractices that has led to the near bankruptcy of NOCAL.

The Nimba County lawmaker also said: “Those senior NOCAL managers should not be compensated as doing so would help minimize the high level of corruption that has brought the oil company on the verge of collapse.”
