Liberia : World Tourism Day-2015 celebration begins domestication of Tourism

(www.elbcradio.com/Sept. 2015)-The Assistant Director of Tourism at the Bureau of Tourism,   Ministry of Information Culture and Tourism, Juanita Yiah says there’s a new approach to take tourism to the ordinary Liberians.

Madam Yiah said: “This year’s theme for the World Tourism Day Celebration, “One Billion Tourists, One Billion Opportunities,” is coincidental with the Bureau’s plans and strategies to domesticate tourism in Liberia”.

She said the World Tourism Day Celebration will be used to market the practical essence of tourism, from the Port City of Buchanan, Grand Bassa County which serves as the “Home of Hospitality in Liberia”.

“For the very beginning, the People of Grand Bassa County will have the opportunity to showcase their traditional Culture while we will tour every tourism sites in the county to be followed by other host counties throughout the country”.

Madam Yiah named the Kptewee Water Fall, Lake Piso in Grand Cape Mount County, Providence Island, in Monrovia and other beautiful beaches and tourist sites in Buchanan, as the ‘BIG FIVE’ to set the stage in branding tourism activities in Liberia.

The Assistant Tourism Director has therefore, ensured the line of strategies being put in place by Deputy Minister of Tourism, Jackie Kephart that will boost the sector.

She observed that the celebration will from this year on, will be hosted in other counties to enable all Liberians of the 15-sub-political division of the country showcase their culture values and promote tourism there.

World Tourism Day is celebrated yearly around the world. In Liberia the occasion will be observed September 28, 2015 for the first time outside the Capitol, and will be attended by President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf and her cabinet.

Others expected to grace the occasion includes the Diplomatic Corps, members of the Legislature, the Judiciary and host of local and international tourists.

As part of activities to mark the occasion, Heartbeat Tourism for Sustainable Development, Liberia (HTSD), a promotional tourism media entity and tour operator involve with the creation of Liberian tourists through Tourism Education and Awareness has organized 20 students’ tourists for the celebration.

The group’s National Coordinator and Administrator in charge of the celebration, Daniel G. Woryonwon said: “We will use the Buchanan World Tourism Day to open the eyes of our students to the beauty of Tourism in Liberia”.
