(elbcradio.com/Sept. 30, 2015)-World leaders have commended Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone for their resilience in the fight against the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).

The commendation came from Ghanaian President, John Mahama, German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, World Health Organization’s Director, Margaret Chan, Tanzanian President, Jikaya Kikwete, Norwegian Prime Minister, Erna Solberg, Microsoft founder, Bill Gates, among others.

They made the commendations over the weekend during special statement and panel discussions at a forum held under the theme, “Securing a Healthy Future-Building Resilient Health Systems to Fight Epidemics and Ensure Healthy Lives.”

At the forum, held at the Westin New York Grand Central, Madison Ball Room, the world leaders noted: “The state of the healthcare system was understandable, due to decades of conflicts experienced by the three West African nations, compared with countries that have enjoyed stability for years.”

The speakers said: “It was now time for the world to work along with these countries to promote security and stability, as well as help develop a resilient healthcare system that works.”

They also stressed the importance of data collection, scrupulous implementation of the SDGs and building strong primary healthcare systems as key in securing a healthy future with resilient healthcare systems to fight epidemics and ensure healthy lives.
