Benjamin S. Taingay

(elbcradio.com/Sept. 30, 2015)-European Union (EU) Head of Delegation to Liberia, Tiina Intelmann, says the country should be able to feed its people.

Ambassador Intelmann said Liberia has the ability to feed its people, because the country is endowed with vast potentials, including fertile soil and good climate.

He also said to achieve such goal requires not only increasing food production, but also improving the business climate in the country.

According to an EU press release, the European diplomat made the statement over the weekend during a visit she paid to Bentol City Mayor, Christine Norman.

Bentol is the provincial Capital of Montserrado County, also host of the Liberian Capital, Monrovia.

The EU envoy noted: “The issue of food security is vital and, as such, the EU is engaging in “Multi-year support to Liberia’s agriculture sector in order to improve its self-sufficiency in food production.

Ambassador Intelmann recounted EU's financial support to major infrastructure projects in the country such as the on-going Gbarnga-to-Ganta and Ganta-to-Guinea border roads.

The EU Ambassador further noted that when the road project is completed, it would benefit the people of Bentol and adjoining villages as they would transport their goods and services unhindered.
