Jebor scores Hat-trick, Liberia beats Guinea Bissau 3-1

( 14, 2014)-William Jebor scored a hat-trick as Liberia beat Guinea Bissau 3-1 in the preliminary rounds of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The Spain-based striker scored in the 8th, 12th and 90th minutes to send Liberia through on a 4-1 aggregate in Bissau.

The win is Liberia’s first away victory in 14 years since the Lone Star last won a competitive World Cup qualifier match against Sierra Leone in 2001.

Now retired George Weah scored the only goal of the match in the qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup held in South Korea and Japan.

Jebor, 23, has registered his named in the book of records by being the first Liberian striker to score three goals in a single international match for Lone Star.

William Jebor, on loan to SD Ponferradina in the Spanish second division, has now netted in five goals for the Lone Star in four matches.

The Liberian International’s first goal came in his debut match against Togo in Lome, while his 2nd and, 3rd, 4th and 5th goals came against Guinea Bissau in Monrovia and Bissau, respectively.

He scored from the penalty spot to give Liberia a 1-0 lead against the Wild dogs of Guinea Bissau, before bagging in the hat-track to take Liberia through.

Liberia will now return home Friday, October 16 to prepare for the last stage of the preliminary rounds against the Elephants of Ivory Coast on November 8 at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) in Monrovia.

If Liberia successfully goes through the preliminary rounds, the country will then qualified for the group stage.

Liberia was paired against Guinea Bissau in a draw held in St. Petersburg, Russia early 2015 for the first preliminary round of the FIFA World Cup qualifier.

The first leg was played Thursday, October 8 at the ATS in the Liberian Capital in front of about 12,000 spectators. The 1-1 draw with Guinea Bissau in the October 8 match caused Liberian fans to have left the stadium in total distress   

At the same time, the Head Coach of the Liberia National Team, James Debah, has attributed Lone Star’s crucial win to God’s blessing and to the players’ commitment.
