(elbcradio.com/Oct. 14, 2015)-The House of Representatives has returned the report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) to President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

President Sirleaf recently submitted a progress report of the TRC recommendations to the Legislature for consideration. The Plenary of the Lower House has halted legislative scrutiny of the President’s report on grounds that the report was not clear.

The House wants the President state in clear terms a definite position on the implementation of the promulgated TRC recommendations. The House of Representatives’ decision followed the submission of a report by the Good Governance and Judiciary Committees.

In their report, the committees informed that body that the President’s report lacks adequate information on the TRC recommendations.

The committees recommended to Plenary that President Sirleaf needed enough time to obtain information from relevant state institutions about the TRC recommendations.

The House joint committees also recommended that the Legislature needed sufficient time to conduct nationwide consultations to solicit the views of Liberians concerning the TRC recommendations.

Following the submission of the committees’ report to Plenary, the House endorsed Representative Garrison Yealou’s motion, requesting it to return the report to the President for clarity.
