( 22, 2015)-The Program Director for Empowerment of Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) at BRAC-Liberia has reaffirmed her organization’s continuous support to local communities.

Anita Anzoyo said: “The ELA will particularly support local communities in the areas of skills training, psycho-social counselling, and human resource development.”

Madam Anzoyo made the statement recently at the launch of a nationwide seminar for community leaders, held in the S.D. Cooper Road Community in Paynesville, outside Monrovia.

She said the initiative is aimed at creating the necessary awareness among community leaders on the cardinal role parents, guardians and community leaders can play in the proper upbringing of adolescents.

The ELA Program Director also said the training is the beginning of the organization’s initiative, expected to cover all parts of the country.

Madam Anzoyo noted that community leaders play more pivotal role in ensuring that adolescents are educated on all negative vices that lead them to engage in early sex and marriage, unwanted pregnancy, among other “bad things.”

“Your failure to instill moral and social disciplines in the youth will make their future bleak and elusive,” the ELA official reminded the participants.

For their part, the participants lauded BRAC-Liberia for the initiative and pledged to maximize the use of the knowledge acquired in their quest to make meaningful contributions to the nation building efforts.

They also promised to take ownership of the exercise through their active participation in educating peers on the dangers of rape, early sex and marriage, and unwanted pregnancy, among other negative vices in society.

The day-long interactive program brought together community leaders, youth and women groups from various communities, including Slipway and West Point.
