Japan to support local farmers capacity-UN Official

(elbcradio.com/Oct. 23, 2015)-A UN Official says the Japanese Government has pledged its support to building the capacities of local farmers to boost food production in Liberia.

The Technical Project Advisor to the United Nations Development Organization (UNIDO), Yasuko Ose, said Japan’s support to local farmers is intended to ensure food security in the country.

Madam Ose made the statement over the week-end at the close of a Training of Trainers’ Entrepreneurship Program in Grand Gedeh County, in Southeastern Liberia.

Also speaking at the Training of Trainers’ Program, Deputy Agriculture Minister for Planning, Patrick Worzi, thanked UNIDO for the undertaking and urged other partners to similar support to farmers in Liberian.

About 50 persons, including local community leaders and Ivorian refugees in the area, benefitted from the training program.
The exercise was initiated by UNIDO, with funding from the Japanese Government.
