Trial Judges boss wants Judiciary adequately supported

(elbcradio.com/Nov. 12, 2015)-The National Association of Trial Judges Vice President says inadequate budgetary support to the Judiciary has exposed judges to public ridicule.

Judge Joemah Jallah said the inadequate budgetary support to the Judiciary has also caused judges, especially Magistrates, to walk to court daily, while Junior Ministers, Directors and Deputy Directors are driving luxurious vehicles to their offices.

Judge Jallah was speaking when he responded to the joint charge of judges of Criminal Courts A, B, C and D at the Temple of Justice Monday, November 9, 2015 during ceremonies for the formal opening of the four courts for the November Term.

Also speaking at the program, Assistant Justice Minister for Litigation, Augustine Fayiah, urged the Public Defense Office to provide evidence linking some judges to demanding money from Public Defenders to release detainees.

Also making remarks at the ceremony, the Senior Prosecutor at the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission, Othello Payma, encouraged judges to always operate in line with the law.

Cllr. Payma also encouraged judges to always review the conduct of some Magistrates who allegedly refuse to approve sufficient bonds filed by defendants.
