Liberia to get friendly governments post-Ebola support

(elbcradio.com/Nov. 12, 2015)-Liberia stands to benefit from the goodwill of friendly governments in support of its post-Ebola economic recovery programs.

Prominent among the nations in readiness to assist Liberia’s development process are China, India and the United States of America.

Recently, Chinese Premier State Council, Li Keqiang, has assured President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf that China was ready to help Liberia progress, especially after the Ebola crisis.

Premier Keqiang said China will complement the massive re-planting and the establishment of processing industries to add value to the many natural resources Liberia is endowed with.

According tothe Liberia News Agency (LINA), the Chinese Premier gave the assurance during a meeting with President Johnson-Sirleaf on her recent visit to China.

Responding, the Liberian Leader spoke of the formulation of Liberia’s Post-Ebola Economic Stabilization Plan to revitalize the health sector.
The President said this can be done through strong partnership with China in the private sector.

President Johnson-Sirleaf made the statement during high-level meetings with the Premier of China’s State Council, Li Keqiang, and the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, Zhang Dejiang.

She called on the two high-ranking Chinese officials for support to fast-track projects in the mining, fishery and agriculture sector.

In another development, the Governments of Liberia and the United States recently signed the Millennium Challenge Corporation Compact Agreement in the United States.

Liberia was represented at the Compact Agreement’s signing ceremony by Vice President, Joseph Boakai.
