Liberia appeals for Intl support

( Dec 9, 2015)-The Liberian Government is appealing for international support to tackle the impacts of climate change in the country.

Established for vulnerable countries like Liberia to address national and international adaptation and mitigation activities.”Finance and Development Planning Minister, Amara Konneh, said: “The growing sea level has led to the intrusion of the sea in most coastal communities, destroying lives and infrastructures.”

He highlighted Liberia’s vulnerability to the impacts of Climate Change.

According to a dispatch from the Liberian Mission in Paris, Minister Konneh made the appeal recently when he met with the Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund, Hela Cheikhrouhou, at the ongoing Climate Change Conference in France.

He described the degradation of the Mesurado River in Monrovia as crucial and called for the swift intervention of Liberia’s partners to address the global threats of Climate Change.

Minister Konneh said: “There is an urgent need for the Green Climate Fund Support to Liberia to strengthen its re silence towards climate change adaptation projects in the country.”  

Responding the GCF Executive Director, Hela Cheikhrouhou, expressed thanks and appreciation to Minister Konneh.

Madam Cheikhrouhou assured Minister Konneh of her entity’s commitment to ensuring that Liberia benefits as one of the vulnerable countries in Africa.
