EU pledges $US6m to Liberia

( Dec. 16, 2015)-The European Union (EU) has committed six million US Dollars to assist Liberia’s Mitigation and Adaptation Programs.

The money will be used to address the effects of climate change in the country.

EU Ambassador to Liberia, Tiina Intelmann, made thedisclosure Tuesday, December 15, 2015 in an interview with in the Liberian capital, Monrovia.

Ambassador Intelmann said:” The fund was announced two days following the close of the International Conference on Climate Change in the French capital, Paris in early December.”

She hailed Liberia’s Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDC) and said:”EU is working along with the country to address some of the issues contained in the Document.”

The EU Diplomat said:” The Union has already allotted 30 million United States Dollars intended for various programs, including agriculture and the Mount Coffey Hydro Rehabilitation Project.”

Ambassador Intelmann, however, said modalities on the early disbursement of the fund are being in fulfillment of the political goodwill subsisting between Liberia and the European Union.
