(lbsonline/Liberia)-An agriculture program, valued at US$14.6M has been launched in Liberia by the government and partners.

The West African Agriculture Productivity Program (WAAPP) is focused on rice and cassava production in the country.

Speaking at the launch Wednesday 14th November 2012, Liberia’s Vice President, Joseph Boakai, said: “The project’s launch signaled the country becoming food secured”.

The project is a ‘Dream come true’ for Liberia as the implementation will lead to food sufficiency in the country, he said.

The West Africa Agriculture Productivity Program is a 10-year initiative, being funded by the World Bank, under the auspices of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). It is aimed at contributing to the growth of sustainable agriculture productivity in the Sub-Region.
