(elbcradio.com/Jan. 18, 2016)-President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is in neighboring Cote D’ Iviore, attending the meeting of Joint Council of Chiefs and Elders from Liberia and Cote D’ Iviore, respectively.

The meeting is also being graced by Ivorian President, Al Hassan Quattara. It got underway over the weekend in Guiglo, Côte d’Ivoire, near the border with Liberia.

An Executive Mansion release says, the inter-state gathering is aimed at continuing the dialogue and consultations launched by the two countries in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County nearly three years ago.

According to the release, the decision to convene such meeting was reached in a Communiqué signed between the two countries, following President Sirleaf’s two-day working visit in 2015.

In October 2013, hundreds  of traditional Chiefs and Elders residing in border communities from  Liberia and Cote D’ Ivoire held a four-day meeting in  Zwedru,  Grand Gedeh.

The Zwedru Meeting was attended by Chiefs and Elders from Nimba, Maryland and River Gee Counties, while those from Cote Ivoire came from Giglo, Danané, Tabou and Tai.

The meeting was intended to improve relationships between and amongst inter-regional and trans-border groups, including the chiefs and elders.

The release is quoted as saying the Giglo Meeting is part of an inclusive dialogue platform responsive to the peace, security and reconciliation needs of all the citizens, particularly those in trans-border communities.
