Govt begins registration of state security arms

(elbcradio.com/Jan. 19, 2016)-The Liberia National Commission on Small Arms says it has begun the registration of fire arms assigned to various state security agencies in Liberia.

The Chairman of the Commission, James Fromoyan, said the exercise is part of measures to ensure strict control of small arms and light weapons in the country.

He said: “As a consequence of the destruction done, coupled with the proliferation of small arms in Liberia and other countries, Government through the Commission, is determined to prevent such recurrence.”

Chairman Fromoyan spoke Monday, January18, 2016 in an interview with elbcradio.com.

Fromoyan emphasized: “The ongoing registration of small arms and light weapons is in line with ECOWAS Convention and will help in tracing arms that could be used for clandestine acts.”

He disclosed that the Commission has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MOU with the Liberia National Police and the Executive Protection Service (EPS) to begin registering their arms.

Chairman Fromoyan said: “Arms assigned to the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) and National Security Agency (NSA), have already been registered.
