(elbcradio.com/Feb. 15, 2016)-Reports from the Somali capital, Mogadishu, say a car bomb explosion has killed the country's former Defense Minister, Muhiyadin Mohamed Haji Ibrahim.

The VOA quotes a police source at the scene as saying the bomb had been planted underneath Mr. Ibrahim’s car.

Mr. Ibrahim, an adviser to the Somali parliament, prior to his death, was a member of the Kulan Political Party.

The blast occurred Monday, February 15, 2016 in Mogadishu's KM4 neighborhood.

The Chairman of the Kulan Political Party, Abdulkadir Barnaamij, told VOA's Somali service that the attack, targeting Ibrahim, happened hours after he had attended a party meeting in Mogadishu.

Up to press time, no one has immediately claimed responsibility for the blast, but it bore the hallmarks of the Somali militant group al-Shabab.

The al-Qaida-linked militants frequently carry out attacks, targeting government officials and African Union troops.
