(elbcradio.com/Feb. 18, 2016)- -President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has instructed the Finance & Development Planning Ministry to work along with the National Legislature to reconstruct the 2015/2016 Recast Budget.

President Sirleaf also instructed the ministry to provide relevant information and documents on the recast budget to facilitate and enhance the process.

In a communication to the Senate, the Liberian Leader said: “As a result of the budget shortfall, all government ministries and agencies are to experience budget cuts.”

“Companies operating in the rubber and iron ore sectors are unable to meet up with their tax obligations due to the global decline in the prices in the two sectors,” she noted.

The President disclosed that Government will continue working along with the companies to take measures that would help them recover and keep their operations in tight,” she noted.

Meanwhile, the communication has been forwarded to Senate Committee on Ways, Means and Finance to advise the Plenary within two weeks.

In recent weeks, the issue of appropriation and cut in the National Budget sparked off disagreements between the Liberian Senate and the Minister of Finance & Development Planning, Amara Konneh.

This followed government’s recent pronouncement of austerity measures to stabilize the economy.
