WAFU to honor Prez Sirleaf for Astute Leadership

(elbcradio.com/Mar. 7, 2016)-Liberia has been selected to host the 2016 West African Football Union (WAFU) Nations Tournament known as the “WAFU Cup.”

This year’s WAFU Cup will be held in Liberia in honor of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

According to the Liberia Football Association (LFA), the WAFU General Assembly, held February 17, 2016 in Dakar, Senegal, unanimously agreed to hold its annual football tournament in honor of President Johnson-Sirleaf.

The honor will be bestowed on the Liberian Leader for her excellent leadership demonstrated over the years in Africa.

The tournament, to be kicked off in Monrovia on the President’s birthday      (October 29), is expected to involve all the 16 WAFU member nations as participants.

LFA President, Musa Bility, who is also 1st Vice President of WAFU, expressed gratitude to WAFU for accepting his request that the tournament be played in honor of President Johnson-Sirleaf in the Liberian Capital, Monrovia.

Mr. Bility assured the West African Football Body that the country is ready to host the 16-nation regional event.

Meanwhile, Liberia’s Chief Patron of Sports, President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, has welcomed the plan by the West African Football Countries to honor her.

Mr. Bility said all the technical, material, and financial details are being worked on between the LFA and the WAFU Secretariat for a successful hosting of the tournament as scheduled.
