(elbcradio com/Mar. 8, 2016)-  Official program marking the observance of International Women’s Day is taking in the Provincial City of Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.

The Program, spearheaded by the Gender Ministry, is being jointly executed by other relevant Government Agencies, Civil Society Organizations and non-governmental organizations.

Liberian women are commemorating International Women’s Day 2016  with their counterparts, under the Global Theme: “Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step It Up for Gender Equality. “

This followed a Presidential Proclamation issued, declaring March 8 as International Women’s Day and it is being observed as a Working Holiday throughout the country.

According to the Proclamation, the National Theme for the celebration is: “Pledge for Parity by 2030: Step It Up for Gender Equality.”

The observance of the Day is in consonance with the UN General Assembly Resolution 32/142 in 1977, proclaiming March 8th of each year as International Women’s Day.

Day is in recognition of the roles women have played and continued to play in social, political and economic spheres. It is also intended to reflect on the challenges and opportunities that will make the world a better place for women.
