Prez. Sirleaf makes Appointments, dissolves Natl Red Cross Board

( 9, 2016) – President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has made new appointments in Government.

An Executive Mansion release says the appointments have affected the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Internal Affairs, Youth and Sports, Booker Washington Institute, Harbel College and the John F. Kennedy Medical Center.

The release says the appointments are subject to confirmation by the Liberian Senate, where applicable consistent with provisions of the Liberian Constitution.

Those appointed are:
Dehpue Zuo - Deputy Minister for International Cooperation & Economic Integration and Deweh Gray, Deputy Minister for Legal Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, respectively.

Others include: Ennish L. Fahnbulleh, Asst. Superintendent for Development, Grand Cape Mount County and Jumah Gull - Superintendent, Suehn-Mecca District, Bomi County. Lance Gbargoyon, Deputy Minister for Youth Development, Ministry of Youth & Sports and. Kula Fofana - Assistant Minister for Youth Services, Ministry of Youth & Sports.

Those appointed as members of the Board of Dierectors of the Booker Washington Institute(BWI) are: Kenneth Y. Best – Institutional Historian,  Upjit Singh Sachdeva (Jeety), Prominent Businessman,  Ezzat Eid Prominent Businessman, Alexander Cummings - Eminent Liberian , Bill Morris, Prominent Businessman Cherif Abdullah, Prominent Businessman and  the Principal& CEO of the Institute, Secretary.

Others include: Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Finance & Development Planning, Ministry of Youth & Sports, An alumnus, BWI Alumni Association, National Social Security & Welfare Corporation, Firestone Plantation Company and Representative, Margibi County Administration

At the same time, President Sirleaf has named Members of the Harbel Board of Trustees. Those appointed are:. David S. Menyongar – Chair, Regina Benson (Community Member), B. McCarthy Weh, II (Community Member), Dr. Gabriel B. Jubwe (Community Member) and Dr. Michael Slawon (National Commission on Higher Education).

Others include:  Senator Jim W. Tornonlah (County Authority), Stephen Karfiah (County Authority), Wil Bako Freeman, Cllr. Winleta Anynn Henries and Firestone Plantation Company).

Others appointed as Statutory Members of the Board of Directors of the John F. Kennedy Memorial Center are: The Chief Medical Officer of the Center,  Dean of the Medical School, University of Liberia, President of the Liberia Nurses Association and President, Liberia Medical and Dental Association.

Others include: Ministry of Health-Chair, Ministries of Finance and Development Planning, Justice and Education, respectively. Other Non-Permanent Members of the John F. Kennedy Medical Center are: Eliza Thomas, Nadu Cooper, Joash T. Hodges and Oscar Bloh (Civil Society and the Liberia Chamber of Commerce.

.Meanwhile, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has dissolved the Board of Directors of the Liberian National Red Cross Society with immediate effect.

The President has also halted the activities/operations of the current Management Team of the entity. According to an Executive Mansion release, President Sirleaf took the decisions on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 following a careful review of events unfolding at the Red Cross.

The Liberian Leader has further cited all members of the dissolved Board of Directors and the Management Team to a meeting on Thursday, March 10,2016 to discuss the current situation at the Liberian National Red Cross.
