Liberia Justice Systems fora end in Bong County

(Monrovia-Liberia)-Three separate forums on Liberia’s the Justice system has ended in Bong County.

The fora, organized by the Rural Human Rights Activists Program (RHRAP), were held in the Bong County cities of Gbarnga, Zeansu and Palala, respectively.

The forums were held under the theme, The “Criminal Justice Highway” with regards to arrest and detention.

According to a release, members of the Citizens Action Committees from the three cities included participants of the three separate meetings.

The Citizens Action Committee comprises mainly zonal heads, traditional leaders, town and clan chiefs, Women and youth groups, among others.At their various deliberations, the participants told the organizers: “The less presence of security personnel in the county, including their respective communities, in the wake of UNMIL draw down is worrisome.”

The participants also highlighted the need to arm the Liberia National Police (LNP) to enable it adequately combat crimes, not only in the county, but Liberia as a whole.

Empower community residents to get actively involved in community policing as a means of buttressing the LNP’s efforts to address the prevailing security concerns across the country.

“We want more training opportunities for the police and other security apparatus operating in the country,” the release also quotes the participants as calling on the National Government.

The issue of the increase in pre-trail detainees at the Gbarnga Central Prison was also considered at the respective discussions.
