Challenges over investment and citizens benefit

(lbsonline/Liberia)-The Minister of Labor, Varbah Gayflor has  disclosed that government faces serious challenges in
ensuring how investments of billions of dollars in Liberia  benefit the citizenry.


Minister Gayflor said Government’s vision is to improve the living conditions of Liberians through the various investments in the country.

Minister Gayflor made the statement Friday 30th November 2012 to mark the official signing of a CBA between the management of Engineers and Planning-Liberia in Monrovia.

She said: “the Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA) being reached between companies’ worker unions and managements will buttress governments strive to improve the salaries and wages of Liberian workers”.    

Engineers and Planning-Liberia, is a Ghanaian company on contract with Arcelor Mittal.

The agreement among other things considered the health and insurance benefits for the workers and their dependents, and is expected to prohibit all forms of abuses against women within the employ of the company.

Engineers and Planning-Liberia workers’ union is being backed by the United Workers Union of Liberia as a parent body.
