GBARNGA, BONG COUNTY - President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has reiterated the Liberian Government’s commitment to the decentralization and de-concentration process.

President Sirleaf acknowledged the tremendous progress already made, but said there was still more progress to be made in the decentralization and de-concentration process.

The President spoke at the Gbarnga City Hall in Bong County, where she officially opened the County Service Center.

The Liberian Leader then thanked partners, particularly the Swedish government and the United Nations, as well as local authorities and citizens of Bong County for their support.

At the same time, President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has congratulated the Government and people of Tanzania on the occasion marking the country’s Union Day.

April 26 is celebrated each year in Tanzania as Union Day, when Tanganyika joined Zanzibar to form the United Republic of Tanganyika and Zanzibar in 1964.

The country was renamed the United Republic of Tanzania on October 29 of the same year.

According to a Foreign Ministry release, President Sirleaf, in her message to the President of Tanzania, John Pombe Magufuli, extended warmest congratulations and best wishes, on behalf of the Government and people of Liberia and in her own name, to the Government and people of Tanzania on the occasion marking the Day.

The Liberian Leader noted that it is worthy to extol the longstanding ties of friendship and cooperation the two countries and people have enjoyed.

The release quotes the President as saying such a favorable occasion presents the opportunity for taking stock of the gains in Liberia and Tanzania’s relations and further cultivates new frontiers that deepen their bonds.

The Chief Executive also said Liberia reaffirms commitment to promoting international peace and security, consistent with the principles of the African Union and the United Nations.
