A woman is rescued six days after a Nairobi building collapse that killed 36 people.

A woman has been rescued from the ruins of a residential building in Nairobi, Kenya.

The news comes six days after the building collapsed amid heavy rains. According to the BBC, Kenya Red Cross took the woman to a nearby hospital for treatment, immediately following her rescue.

Thirty-three people are confirmed dead, following the collapse of the six-story residential building last Friday and more than 80 people are still missing.

The BBC says the building's presumed owners have been released on bail, following their arrest Monday. Rescue workers made frantic effort to get the survivor free after she was found on Thursday morning.

Bystanders watching the rescue process applauded as she was carried away on a stretcher. A six-month-old child was pulled alive from the rubble Tuesday, but her mother was found dead the following day.

City authorities say they had earmarked the building for demolition after it was declared unfit for human habitation, the BBC also quoted Red Cross authorities in Nairobi.

An official audit of the country's buildings found out that more than half of the structures in the capital are not fit for human habitation.
