MONROVIA, LIBERIA -The National Elections Commission (NEC) has accredited two new political parties.

They are the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR) and the Vision for Liberia Transformation (VOLT).

The Chairman of the National Elections Commission, Jerome Korkoya, said the accreditation of the two new parties demonstrates the fulfillment of unhindered multi-party democracy in Liberia.

Cllr.  Korkoya said: “Democracy is at work in Liberia because the people of the country are now freely exercising their freedom of association. “

“All registered political parties are also under obligation to promote electoral participation, including Civic and Voter Education to enhance increased participation of the citizenry,” Cllr. Kokoya noted.

Chairman Kokoya spoke Friday, May 6, 2016 at the certification program of the two new political parties, the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction and the Vision for Liberia Transformation at NEC Headquarters in  Monrovia.

He urged the two newly-certificated political parties to operate within the confines of the laws of Liberia and avoid pre-electoral campaigning.

The accreditation of thel parties is consistent with Article 79 of the Liberian Constitution and Chapter 2 Sub-Chapters A and B of the Regulations and Guidelines relating to Political Parties and Independent Candidates.

The certification of the two new political parties brings to twenty-two the total number of registered political parties in the country.
