MONROVIA, LIBERIA- The President of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL), Abdullai Kamara, is calling for appropriate reforms to improve the media landscape in the country.

Mr. Kamara said improvement in the media landscape is the surest way to enhance democracy and effective peace.

He noted: “The PUL continues to collaborate with partners to address constraints the media is faced with and find the way forward.”

“The media reform process was initiated in 2004 with strong collaboration which led to the passage of the the Freedom of Information Law in 2010 under the Liberia Media Development Program, “the PUL President said.

Mr. Kamara said despite some differences on the overall performance of the media over the years, relations between government and the media have been cordial.

The PUL President vowed to ensure the rights of journalists are protected within the confines of the law and challenged the media to uphold ethical standards.

Mr. Kamara made the statement Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at the start of a two-day Liberia Media Law Reform Conference in Monrovia.
