George Weah accepts Peace Ambassador post

(lbsonlin/Liberia)-As a mark of reconciliation in Liberia, Opposition leader, Ambassador George Weah has been appointed by President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf to serve as Liberia’s Peace Ambassador.

The appointment of Ambassador Weah of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) comes in the wake of a meeting of leaders of political parties, to solicit their inputs in designing and implementing programs for vision-2030.

According to President Sirleaf, George Weah had consented to work with the government as “Liberia’s Peace Ambassador”.

President Johnson Sirleaf believes that George weah can assist with  the reconciliation efforts.

The president further assured the political party leaders that: “vision 2030 is a frame work to examine the past, present, and future development agenda  of Liberia”.

The Liberian Leader said: “we tried to put together our country today, to where we want it to be tomorrow”.

In a related development, about 500-delegates made of 60 youth are expected to gather in Gbanga, Bong County for a conference beginning Wednesday 5th December 2012.

The entire process which started two years ago, has a team of steering committee with representations throughout the 156-administrative districts of Liberia and in the Diaspora.

CDC Chairman, George Solo who represented his party has confirmed the preferment of ambassador Weah by the Government.

He said such appointment will enhance Mr. Weah’s continues contribution to the development of the country.

Another person who welcomed the appointment of Ambassador Weah is the Chairman of Good Governance Commission, Dr. Amos Sawyer.

He said: “you can never have too many people doing reconciliation when Ambassador Weah brings a lot the table.  He is highly respected person by lots of people in our society and abroad, he is a celebrity and he brings all of that to the table”.

Dr.Sawyer further said:  “the appointment of George Weah is very important, he is not alone we have to consolidate in building peace, upon which we can build this nation and Ambassador Weah can help to achieve this”.
