Police launch search for two custom brokers

MONROVIA-Reports say police in Monrovia are in search of two custom brokers for their alleged involvement in the processing and illegal releasing of 56 containers from the National Port Authority (NPA).

According to the reports, the containers were released to the United Commodities incorporated and Westco. The Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) and the police named the two custom brokers as Paul Jacobson and Jerry Carpenter.

They want the two individuals who are said to be on the run investigated for their all edged roles in the containers saga.

Meanwhile, the LRA has requested the National Custom Brokers Association to assist in providing information regarding the whereabouts of the two brokers.

LRA authorities said: “The smuggling of the containers from the NPA requires both criminal and civil penalties.” “At the close of the investigation, findings will be forwarded to the Justice Ministry for legal action, “they emphasized.

The LRA disclosed that the containers entered Liberia between January and March of 2016 and were stored at the APM Terminals.
According to our reporter, the LRA said the 56 containers were later released through the back gate to UCI without paying customs and other revenues due government.
