(lbsonline/Liberia)-The Opposition Liberty Party is calling on the National Legislature to pass a law that will make nepotism illegal to deter current and future Presidents of Liberia from practicing the act.

The National Chairman of the Liberty Party, Cllr. Fonnati Koffa said: “there is no need for anyone to accuse President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf or anyone for practicing nepotism”.

The Liberty Party made the recommendation Tuesday 4th December 2012 at a press conference held in Monrovia.

The Liberty Party chairman said: “If the National Legislature enacts a law making nepotism illegal, it will serve as a means of discouraging President Sirleaf and any future president of the Liberia to get involved in practicing the ugly act”.

Chairman Koffa said “the Liberty Party is strongly against the current debate on nepotism, which is treading on the path of Personal destruction. “The way the debate is going it is not healthy for the society”, he added.

In recent times, politicians and some ordinary Liberians have had their days accusing President Sirleaf for ‘practicing nepotism’ in government.

According to Cllr. Koffa “if the issue of nepotism has become a serious problem in the country, it should be dealt with sufficiently and comprehensively in the context of the rule of law”.
