Over 53, 000 9th Graders sit WAEC exams today

MONROVIA, LIBERIA- More than 53 thousand 9th Graders are sitting the 2016/2017 exams of the West African Examination Council, beginning today, May 19, 2016 throughout the country.

According to Assistant Education Minister for Basic and Primary Education, Felecia Doe-Somah, the 9th Graders’ exams will run from May 19-20, while 12th Graders’ exams will run from May 23- 27.

Assistant Minister Doe-Somah said: “Of the total number of candidates, about 1, 200 junior high schools registered with 27, 900 constitituting males and more than 25, 200 females, respectively sitting the exams.

“Over 500 senior high schools registered with more than 46, 900 candidates, totaling 21, 963 females and more than 25,000 males expected to sit the 12th Grade exams.

Assistant Minister Doe-Somah made the disclosure recently at the regular press briefing of the Information Ministry.

She noted:  “Candidates from 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 will also sit this year’s WAEC exams.

Assistant Minister Doe-Somah also clarified that only schools being used by WAEC will temporarily close, while the rest of the schools will continue the regular academic calendar.

She urged school administrators and teachers to give assignments to students whose campuses are being used by WAEC to complement the instructional activities of the students.
