MONROVIA, LIBERIA- A group under the banner, United Liberians Concerned about the Future, has petitioned former Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) Executive Governor, Dr. Mills Jones, to contest the Liberian Presidency in 2017.

In the petition, the group said its decision was based on Dr. Jones’ enormous contributions to government’s poverty reduction strategy and the over-all development process of the country.

“The empowerment of grass-root Liberians through loan scheme, financial inclusion and accesses to banks across the country are some of Dr. Jones’ achievements,” they said.

The petitioners also noted: “During the tenure of Dr. Jones as Executive Governor of the Central Bank of Liberia, he introduced several community-based initiatives which are helping many Liberians to sustain themselves.”

Responding, Dr. Jones thanked the United Liberians Concerned for the Future and promised to work along with them in the achievement of their desired aspirations.

The former CBL Governor, however, did not either accept or reject the petition, but promised to respond soon following consultations.

The petitioning ceremony in honor of the former CBL Executive Governor was graced by scores of sympathizers and supporters in appreciation of his outstanding role in society.
