MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Ministry of Health has indefinitely suspended the Senior Management Team of the St. Francis Hospital in Rivercess County, pending the outcome of an investigation into allegation of theft.

According to a release from the Ministry of Health, those suspended are James Peters, Lionel Fahnbulleh and Darlington Duoe, Chief Administrator, Medical Director and Accountant, respectively.

The release is also quoted as saying the three local health officials were suspended for their alleged involvement into forgery and the diversion of funds intended for use by the hospital.

The Health authorities said: “The Ministry’s internal investigative audit commissioned revealed widespread corruption and mismanagement of funds appropriated by both donors and government to run the hospital.”

“The audit also captured several discrepancies and illegal transactions totaling the amount of twenty one thousand, seven hundred and fifteen United States Dollars and two million, six hundred and nine thousand, three hundred and seventy-one Liberian Dollars, linking the three top officials of the St. Francis Hospital, “ they said.

According to the release, the Accountant also allegedly made fraudulent withdrawals from the hospital’s account single handedly and jointly with his colleagues to purchase building materials from vendors under dubious circumstances.

The Ministry said the three men will be turned over the Justice Ministry along with the audit report for prosecution.

The Ministry’s latest action, according to the release, is meant to deter the abuse and misuse of entrusted funds intended to improve the health sector of the country amidst the numerous efforts by the Ministry and partners to achieve such objective.

Meanwhile, all efforts to get the accused for their comments up to press time proved futile.

Investigation continues.
