MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Antoinette Tubman Stadium in the Liberian capital, Monrovia, was a scene of misery when Liberia was forced to a 2-2 draw by Togo in their Group A clash on Sunday, June 5, 2016.

According to our reporter, the game which attracted a huge crowd, witnessed Liberia scoring early in both halves for the two-goal advantage, thus putting them on the brink of qualification.

However, Liberia’s chance to maintain a two-goal lead did not materialize as Togo mounted pressure to cancel the lead midway in the second half.

The Lone Star went up as early as the three minute when Israeli-based Gizzie Dorbor scored the first goal as a result of a perfect coordination with Francis Grandpa Doe through a head up.

After the opener, there were series of close chances for the Lone Star to cement the lead with the likes of Williams Jebor, Anthony Snorti Laffor and Francis Grandpa Doe, all missing possible scoring chances.

Midfielder, Floyd Ayite nearly equalized for the Togolese from a free-kick at the edge of the penalty area, but his curling shot hit the crossbar with the Liberia goalie completely beaten.

Nine minutes into the break, Williams Jebor doubled the lead for the Lone Star with a spectacular scissor kick, a contender for best goal of the qualifiers.

According to our reporter, the jubilations by Liberians were abruptly cut short when Togo’s Ayite took advantage of a defensive blunder to head home on 68 minutes to reduce the deficit.

Seven minutes to the full 90-minute of play, an unmarked Kodjo Laba headed home the equalizer from a corner to mute the crowd.  The result of the Liberia vs Togo match means that the group’s winner will be decided on the final round of matches in September this year.

Liberia shares top spot with Tunisia on 10 points each, two more than Togo with Djibouti pointless.

Meanwhile, the Liberian Players and coaches boarded ambulances and used police escort vehicles after the game for fear of being attacked by angry football fans.
