Ahead of 2017 Polls: NEC releases election Timetable

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The National Elections Commission (NEC), has released key electoral dates for the 2017 Presidential and Representative Elections.

According to the Commission, major activities promulgated include Voter registration period, Civic Voter education for exhibition, writ of elections, accreditation of party agents, media and observers will run from February 1 to June 9, 2017.

NEC Chairman, Jerome Korkoyah, said “The exhibition of provisional registration roll and the distribution of voter identification cards, objections and appeals of exhibition held and determined, as well as final voter registration figures will run from June 10-July 1, 2017.”

“The nomination of candidates,  objections and appeals on nominations held and determined, launch of civic voter education, as well as the publication of preliminary list of candidates will run July 2- 24, 2017,” he said.

According to the election timetable, the final list of candidates published, Presidential and Representative Campaign period, candidates’ debate, Election Day and the announcement of final election results, will run from August 8 to October 25, 2017.

Cllr. Korkoyah noted: “These dates are subject to adjustments, depending on prevailing circumstances.”

Meanwhile, other activities leading to the 2017 elections will begin June 20, this year and will run to January 4, 2017 to jump start the official launch of the civic voter education.
