MONROVIA, LIBERIA- Public Works Minister, Gyude Moore, has dismissed media reports linking the Ministry to awarding contracts through a single source method of procurement under his administration.

Minister Moore said contrary to the reports, the Ministry has been awarding contracts through a competitive bidding process as required by the Public Procurement Law of Liberia.

He said:  “The Public Works Ministry has not awarded any contract through a single source method as reported.”

“Prior to my appointment, more than one hundred million dollar worth of contracts had been awarded through the single source method of procurement,” Minster Moore emphasized.

The Public Works Minister made the clarification Thursday, June 23, 2016 at the regular press briefing of the Information Ministry in Monrovia.

His clarification comes amid widespread corruption allegations at the Ministry.

A single source method is where all contracts are awarded to a single contractor in disregard to the Public Procurement Law.

In a related development, Minister Moore has disclosed that the Ministry is now using an alternative method to pave all feeder roads in the country.

He said: “The Ministry is currently using the new method known as the “con-aid,” to pave four hundred miles of the Somalia Drive Road Project.”

The Public Works Minister described the new method as satisfactory and proven to be successful.
