MONROVIA, LIBERIA- Reports say one person has died as a result of flooding on the Roberts field Highway in Margibi County.

Deputy Information Minister for Public Affairs, Isaac Jackson, said: “The
flood intensified by the over flooding of the Kpo River on the (RIA) Highway, including other sources of water from wetlands in the area.”

Minister Jackson said: “The Government of Liberia has temporarily closed the road leading from the ELWA Junction to the Roberts International Airport (RIA) as a result of the situation.”

He urged all passengers and citizens using the Airport route to instead use the 15-Gate route to avoid embarrassment.

Minister Jackson made the disclosure Thursday, June 30, 2016 at the regular press briefing of the Information Ministry.

Meanwhile, local authorities in Margibi County are appealing to government and charitable organizations to urgently intervene.

Margibi County Superintendent, John Buway, said: “The flood victims need food, shelter and other basic necessities due to the natural catastrophe.”

Up to press time, the fate of the flood victims remains uncertain, as rescuers from either government or charitable organizations are yet to intervene.
