MONROVIA. LIBERIA-The Standard Bearer of the governing Unity Party (UP) is calling on Liberians not to lose track of the progress being made since the inception of the party in 2006.

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf called on Liberians to be proud of themselves by working together to transform the country.

She said: “Despite numerous challenges, the governing Unity Party continues to make efforts to move Liberia forward following many years of backwardness.”

“Liberia has held two successful democratic elections, succeeded in seeing the country's huge debt waived and made efforts to improve the living conditions of Liberians, “the Unity Party Standard Bearer said.

President Sirleaf made the call Thursday, July 7, 2016 at the formal opening of the Unity Party National Convention in Gbarnga, Bong County.

She also admonished Liberians to work together for the common good of the country.
“I urge Liberians, especially UP partisans, to be proud and celebrate the party’s achievements. “

The UP National Convention is currently taking place in Gbarnga, Bong County, to be climaxed by elections ahead of the 2017 Presidential and Legislative elections.

Reports emanating from the Party’s Convention Committee say incumbent Vice President and National Secretary General, Joseph Boakai and Wilmot Paye, are said to be going unopposed as Standard Bearer and National Chairman, respectively.

The Unity Party-led government assumed leadership in 2006 following highly contested elections under the watch of the international community.

The UP Gbarnga Convention is being attended by its Standard Bearer, President Ellen Johnson- Sirleaf, scores of partisans, political parties and other civil society organizations.
