Gov’t commits US$20m to National Elections Commission

MONROVIA, LIBERIA:-The National Elections Commission (NEC) has got financial boost in its preparation towards the 2017 Presidential Elections.

According to Presidential Press Secretary, Jerolinmick Piah the Liberian Government Tuesday secured about twenty million United States Dollars of the total funding needed by NEC to conduct the pending Elections.

Presidential Press Secretary, Jerolinmick Piah, made the disclosure in an interview with ELBC Wednesday when he spoke on the outcome of a Special Session of the Liberia Development Alliance (LDA).

The Special Executive Session was held Tuesday in Monrovia under the gavel of President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.

Mr. Piah said: “NEC’s Executive Director, Larmin Lighe, making presentation at the Special Session, on behalf of the Commission, commended the Government for its commitment to holding the elections come 2017.”

Director Lighe noted that the money will attract donor support to the pending electoral process.
The Presidential Press Secretary also told ELBC that President Sirleaf described the process is crucial and it will serve as a litmus test for Liberia’s young democracy.
