Alpha Old Timers to honor Willis D-Knuckles, Jr.

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Willis D-Knuckles Jr. Sports pitch in Zubah Town, Paynesville will come alive by a one-day memorial football tournament.

The one-day memorial football tournament will be hosted on National Flag Day, Wednesday, August 24, 2016 in honor of the founding father of Alpha Old Timers Sports Association, Willis D-Knuckles, Jr., or “Bob Willy” as he was commonly called.

According to reports, the participating teams in the show-down will include the four teams that make up the Alpha Old Timers Sports Association and six other teams.

A fund raising rally to give the pitch a face lift will be held on the same Wednesday as the family of the late Knuckles, Jr. will also grace the occasion.

The Program Committee Chairman, Cole Bangalu, told ELBC Online Sports that Vice President Joseph Boakai, Alexander Cummings, and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cellcom, Avisha Marziano, will also grace the program.

Chairman Bangalu named Lekan Balogun of United Bank of Africa, David Thompson of Eco-Bank, the head of Guarantee Trust Bank and the head of Liberia Coca Cola Bottling Company, as well as the Lone Star Communications Manager will also be there. 

Commenting further, he said the committee looks forward to receiving positive response from the six invited teams. The one-day show-piece is part of programs to Mark the 40th Anniversary of Alpha.
