Wed., August 24, 2016 declared as National Flag Day

MONROVIA, LIBERIA:-Liberians will Wednesday, August 24, 2016 observe National Flag Day throughout the Country.

According to a Proclamation issued Tuesday, August 23, 2016 in Monrovia, the Day was declared as a National Holiday by President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.

The Day is in consonance with the 1925 Act, approved on October 25 by the National Legislature, declaring August 24 each year as National Flag Day to be observed as a National Holiday.

The Proclamation quotes President Johnson-Sirleaf as calling on citizens and foreign residents in Liberia to observe the Day by flying the National Flag from each dwelling and public building.

It directs all government offices and business houses in the country to be closed from six o’clock in the morning to six o’clock in the evening.

The Proclamation further directs the Education Ministry and all other relevant Government agencies to execute appropriate programs befitting the Day.

“The National Flag of Liberia is a visible evidence of the country’s sovereignty and independence, and a symbol of pride and dignity within the comity of nations,” it also quotes the Liberian Chief Executive as saying.
