President urges Students to study science courses

(lbsonline/Liberia)-President Ellen Johnson- Sirleaf is urging university students to pursue science courses to address the country’s human resource challenges.

The Liberian Leader also challenged Liberian students  in general to venture in technical and vocational education.

“The University of Liberia has a leading role in enhancing the human resource capacity of Liberia because non Liberians could take over technical managerial jobs if Liberian students do not venture in technical education”.

President Sirleaf pointed out that “unemployment rate will continue unabated if students continue to focus on the business college and leaving out the technical areas of study”.

Madam Sirleaf made the statements Wednesday when she addressed the 93rd Commencement Convocation of the University of Liberia (UL) which took place at the Samuel Kanyan Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville City.

President Sirleaf however, encouraged students to pursue their higher education in Agriculture to ensure food security in Liberia.

The Liberian Leader also, commended the graduates for their achievements and urged them to go into the world and serve their country with diligence and patriotism.

For his part, the President of the UL, Dr. Emmet Dennis has disclosed the increment of fees per course to LD$350.00 for the next two years.

Dr. Dennis further announced that the David Stradz Technical College in Senjie, Grand Cape Mount County will begin operations by October next year to provide technical education for all.
