Liberia extols UN for firm support

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Government has extolled the United Nations (UN) for its support to Liberia’s ongoing transformation.

Liberia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Lewis Brown, particularly praised the UN Security Council for the maintenance of peace and security in Liberia through UNMIL.

Ambassador Brown expressed gratitude and appreciation to the UN, on behalf of the President, Government and people of Liberia, for the world body’s enormous support to Liberia’s post-conflict progress.

He urged the Security Council to continue its support to Liberia as the West African Nation strives to consolidate peace in the sub-region.

According to a Dispatch from the Liberian Mission at the UN, Ambassador Brown made the commendation Thursday, August 25, 2016 in New York at a Debate on the UN Secretary General’s 32nd and Final Report on Liberia.

The former Information Minister also commended the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative to Liberia, Farid Zari, and the UN Peace Building Commission’s Representative, for their support to Liberia over the years.

Ambassador Brown said the Liberian Government was proud to formally resume full security responsibilities of the country after the departure of UNMIL.

He reiterated Liberia’s continued engagements with the Commission and renewed commitment to Peace-building and urged called for international support to its successful implementation.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Brown is calling on Liberians to work together and sustain the peace and security they are enjoying, if the ultimate progress of their country must be achieved.
