MONROVIA, LIBERIA:-The  Liberia  Football   Association  says  a high-  power  Liberian football  delegation  will  depart  the  country  this  weekend  for Rabat, Morocco.

According to LFA authorities, players of the National Football Team, the Lone star, and officials of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) will make up the delegation to Morocco.

The trip is intended to afford the Lone Star an opportunity to engage their Moroccan counterparts in a friendly international football match on August 31, 2016.

The LFA said: “The  friendly  was  arranged  and  accepted  based  on  a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) signed  By both Associations  and a sports  promoting firm  called,  MC-SPORTS.”

“Under the agreement, MC-SPORTS will provide the Liberian football delegation a fifty seated bus, accommodation and feeding while in that North African Country.”

Also under the MOU, the Moroccan FA will provide the Lone Star an opportunity to train along with the North African nation’s national team for 5-days, ahead of the Liberia’s Nations Cup encounter against Tunisia next month.

The Lone Star, according  to  the  local FA,  will  feature   foreign-based  players  while  their  hosts  will  parade  local   stars. Some callers  on  our radio sports program (Super  Sports)  warned Head  Coach,  James  Debah,  against fielding foreign-based  players  in  the  friendly.

They said though  they welcome  the   match,  it  will be  good  for  Debah    not  to  risk  his  players,  because   the Lone Star  has   a  crucial  Nations  Cup  clash  against Tunisia on  September 3, 2016  in Tunis.

But Coach  Debah  told  reporters  in  Monrovia that  he will use  his current  cream  of  players  to engage the Moroccans.

The  Lone  Star Team Manager, however,  acknowledged that morocco  is already qualified for the  2017 African  Cup  of  Nations finals; saying: “I will parade  locals and, as Head Coach, I will use  the  game  to  prepare  better  for the  September 3 show-down.”

It can be recalled that in their first meeting in Monrovia, Liberia defeated  Tunisia  1-0 at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) in  a  group  A  qualifier  for  the  2017 finals.

Star player, Francis grandpa Doe,   scored the lone goal in that match for Liberia. Reports say in the Liberia-Morocco friendly, the Lone Star could line up players like Dioh Williams, Solomon Grimes, Gizze Dorbor, Teah Dennis, William Jerbor and Sam Johnson.  Others are, Tonia Tisdell, Francis Grandpa Doe, among others.

It is also reported that the above mentioned players will line up against Tunisia three days after the friendly. Liberia’s last appearance at a Nations Cup Finals was in 2002 in Bamako, Mali.

Sense than the country has neither reached the final, nor cross the first round of the competition. Soccer  pundits  say  the  failure  of  the  Lone  star  to progress  is  due  to poor preparations  and  lack  of  adequate national support.

The  Lone  Star  is  presently training  at  the  ATS,  ahead  of  its  departure  for Rabat, Morocco. The team, following the friendly, will move on to Tunis to take on the Tunisian National Team on September 3.
