Stakeholders adopt policy on girls education

(lbsonline/Liberia)- Participants of a three day consultative forum are calling for the transformation of cultural issues affecting girls and women.

The participants also want strategy put in place to regulate traditional customs to allow girls attend school and to address the issue of dress code for girls and women.

The meeting organized by Women Solidarity in collaboration with UNFPA also discussed issues of sexual gender based violence and early marriage as well as other harmful practices.

The more than 50 participants representing 10 counties recommended to government, NGOs and faith-based organizations to implement the girls’ education policy and to assign   social workers at various schools to educate school kids on gender based violence.

The recommendations adopted will be submitted to Government and other relevant entities through the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
