MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Government has, with immediate effect, issued Executive Order Number 80, suspending Import Tariffs on rice.

The issuance of Executive Order Number 80 followed the Government’s assessment and evaluation of the causes of increases in the prices of various commodities on the local market.

According to an Executive Mansion release, President Johnson-Sirleaf issued the latest Executive Order recently in Monrovia. The move also followed Government’s intend to initiate measures to improve the situation.

The release quotes the Liberian Chief Executive as saying: “The Government is committed to ensuring that the prices of certain basic commodities on the Liberian Market are affordable.”

“Government’s move is also intended to curb the continuous increase in the price of the country’s staple food, rice, to make it affordable for the public,” she emphasized. Government’s latest action is in line with the Revenue Code of Liberia Act 2000.
