Minister Kamara wants donors focus on trauma healing…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Foreign Minister, Marjon Kamara, is urging donors and disaster management organizations operating in Liberia to focus on trauma healing and psycho-social counseling.

Minister Kamara said trauma healing and psycho-social counseling are very crucial to the country’s post-Ebola recovery process.

She said: “Though the issue of physical health is important, the question of trauma healing and psycho-social counseling cannot be over emphasized.”

According to a Foreign Ministry release, Minister Kamara made the statement Friday, September 2, 2016 when she received in audience the new Country Director of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Society to Liberia, Younos Abdul Karim.

Director Karim had gone at the Foreign Ministry to present his letters of Credence to Minister Kamara.

Receiving the letters, the Liberian Foreign Minister hailed Mr. Karim and the Red Cross and Red Crescent Society’s role in the fight against Ebola and all that organization continues to provide for Liberia.

In response, Mr. Karim noted: “Though the Ebola crisis is over, the Federation is in Liberia to support post-Ebola recovery and to implement disaster management programs in Guinea and Sierra Leone.”

“The International Federation of the Red Cross will join Liberian stakeholders to address the issue of capacity-building, emergency relief operating in the country, Mr. Karim also noted.

“The Federation will mainly cater to the vulnerable people in the country,” the release quotes Director Karim as also saying.
