Legislature begins fiscal Budget expenditure hearing

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Hearing into the expenditure component of the 2016/2017 National Budget has commenced.

The hearing commenced Tuesday, September 13, 2016 in the Joint Chambers of the National Legislature on Capitol Hill in Monrovia.

Seven government ministries and agencies appeared before the Budget Committee during the deliberations.

Ministries and agencies that appeared include the Finance and Development Planning, and Foreign Affairs Ministries, and the Liberia Revenue Authority (LTA).

Others are the Ministries of Internal Affairs, Youth and Sports, and the Gender, Women and Children, as well as the General Services Agency (GSA).

According to the Presiding Officer, Hans Bachue, the Budget Expenditure component’s hearing will last for three days.

Presiding Officer Bachue said the three days allotted to the hearing is to enable the Legislature meet up with September 20, the tentative date for the passage of the Budget.

The Grand Bassa County Representative also said hearing into the revenue component of the Budget ended Monday, September 12, giving way to hearing into the expenditure component.

Representative Bachue, however, maintained that lawmakers are working over night to meet up with the date set for the Budget’s passage.
