MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA)’s Chairperson, Angelique Weeks, is appealing to private telecommunication investors to help boost the country’s economic growth.

Mrs. Weeks made the appeal in a BBC Focus on Africa interview Tuesday, September 13, 2014 in Accra, Ghana.

The LTA Chairperson is among some 200 of Africa’s leading technology innovators and policy makers who have gathered in the Ghanaian Capitol for the maiden edition of the Africa Summit on Women and Girls in Technology.

The high level discussions and debates are focused on exploring how technology policies can work to close the digital gender divide and empower African women and girls through technology.

The LTA Chair was a speaker on the Summit’s opening Key-note Panel.

Touching on policy processes, Mrs. Weeks emphasized the importance of committing resources to effectively implement policies towards achieving the U.N. sustainable gender equitable internet access development goals.

The Summit will focus on four areas, including women’s rights online, digital education, digital entrepreneurship, and affordable broadband.
